At Raytheon BBN Technologies we work on both the problem of speaker identification, where we determine the identity of a speaker from a set of speakers, and that of speaker verification, where we accept or reject the claimed identity of a speaker. In making a decision, we employ probabilistic methods that exploit both the spectral patterns generated by a speaker as well as the speaker's use of language.

Our current emphasis is on the development of discriminative training methods in model building. The methods we are developing enable us to optimize the structure and parameters of the models automatically to minimize cost functions that can be specified by the user.
