Overview

                  hand data

Raytheon BBN Technologies provides critical sensor technologies in systems for military and homeland defense.

We perform applied research, conduct proof of concept demonstrations, and build prototypes, simulations, and highly reliable operational systems to solve our customers’ hardest problems.

The Sensor Systems business unit formulates system concepts developed from first principles. As a whole we approach difficult problems from the perspective of what the physics of the phenomenon may produce; we conduct field-tests to prove the ability of the hypothesized concept to work; working with our customers, we then produce a "first-of" system, which then can provide us the foundation for moving the concept to an operational system.

Current Projects

  • Atmospheric Infrasound

Raytheon BBN Technologies Sensor Systems infrasound experts have been performing relevant research and development efforts for over a decade in support of numerous customers, including the DOE/NNSA, US Army/SMDC, AFRL, and DTRA.
  • Counter-Shooter Technology

Raytheon BBN Technologies first developed the Boomerang shooter detection system technology for ground vehicles and static applications under DARPA sponsorship in late 2004, and there are now over 5,000 systems helping to protect troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. US forces often use helicopters to move quickly in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Embedded Systems Hardware and Software Development and Integration

Expertise in algorithm design and implementation, software and hardware integration, and middleware
  • EM Detection and Exploitation

Raytheon BBN Technologies Sensor Systems participated on a team to develop and demonstrate an airborne system for finding, characterizing, and assessing attack effectiveness against underground facilities and for identifying urban activities through mapping of the power grid.
  • Geophysics

Raytheon BBN Technologies Sensor Systems geophysicists have been performing on government-funded research and development projects for over a decade. We have several ongoing efforts with the objectives of detecting tunnels and tunneling activity using acoustic and seismic sensors.
  • Maritime Systems

We have participated in hundreds of projects in transducer design and fabrication, acoustic data analysis, signal processing, sonar system design and development, real-time simulation/stimulation of undersea vehicles, and modeling of undersea phenomenology.
  • Compact Radar Sensor System

Compact, concealable sensor with broad coverage capabilities
