With the number of nodes in mobile wireless network growing exponentially, the key question is how to design a network to handle bursty data, mobility, scalability, and Quality of Service. The optimal design must provide a revolutionary solution to meet all of these requirements, and WiroKit could be the solution to many military communication problems. WiroKit implements two different routing algorithms; a full peer-to-peer link-state router and an extremely lightweight many-to-one (or many-to-few) routing algorithm for sensor networks with a large number of sensors but a limited number of monitoring points. WiroKit code has been used for large (~10,000 node) sensor networks with the Dartmouth Scalable Simulation Framework (DaSSF) and in a BBN and Dartmouth College collaboration on a Department of Justice funded project.
