Analysis of Mobility Platform (AMP) is a DOD and USTRANSCOM sponsored modeling and simulation system for analyzing the end-to-end transportation of unit equipment and sustainment through the Defense Transportation System using surface, air and sealift modes of transportation. An offshoot of the Dynamic Analysis and Replanning Tool in 1990, BBN Technologies has been the principal developer of AMP for over a decade. AMP is a platform independent comprehensive, dependable, analysis tool for:
- Programmatic Analysis : AMP provides end-to-end mobility analysis to determine airlift, sealift and future infrastructure capabilities.
- Planning: AMP provides comprehensive transportation analysis of operational plans using Timed-Phased Force Deployment Data.
- Wargames and Exercise Support: Provides transportation flows and force closure data to enable players to determine unit availability in theater. Model links to Joint Staff warfight models.
AMP Capabilities
AMP provides access to planning and futuristic data required to support the deployment of both forces and sustainment to the theater commander. AMP’s capabilities span all aspects of distribution analysis including the strategic and theater mobility portion.
- Provides extensive ‘what-if’ capabilities in the mobility feasibility realm.
- Establishes a common interface and input/output shell for transportation analyses.
- Enables seamless collaborative analyses between analytical teams at various headquarters locations.
Data Manipulation
Using conventional military planning information provided by TPFDDs/DEPORDs in simulation studies requires numerous manipulations to translate, roll-up, or extrapolate data. AMP provides extensive mechanisms for performing these manipulations:
- Summarizes data
- Applies user-specified heuristics to obtain the correct data and formats
- Adds additional information, such as sustainment requirements to TPFDDs, to provide a complete movement requirement for the DTS
Data Display
The data derived from transportation models must be visualized in particular ways to answer specific questions. Often, information from multiple models must be assembled into one coherent picture. AMP automates these functions and allows graphical and tabular displays from multiple runs to be assembled and compared as soon as the simulations are completed.
Data Export
AMP allows model results and setups to be exported back into standard data formats for other systems using Post-Processing Tools which include:
- JOPES 21 B8 format export
- Output for warfight simulations such as TACWAR and JICM
- GEO Location Files
- TUCHA Files
- TRANSPORT airport and seaport simulation input files
An AMP graphics utility adds the ability to turn model results into polished Power Point presentation and Excel Spreadsheet files.
Transportation Simulations
Transportation models and simulations used by AMP include the following models, which are run in parallel:
- Model for Intertheater Deployment by Air and Sea (MIDAS)
- Enhanced Logistics Intratheater Support Tool (ELIST and CONUS ELIST).
