BBN Technologies Subsidiary, Digital Force Technologies, Welcomes David Desch as Vice President, Engineering
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. And SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 21, 2009 — BBN Technologies and Digital Force Technologies announce that David Desch, an accomplished software and systems development executive, has joined Digital Force Technologies (DFT) as Vice President of Engineering. With more than 25 years of professional experience, Mr. Desch has earned a reputation for leading dedicated and capable teams, developing exceptional technological products and software applications, and generating profitable and reputable business solutions. DFT has provided rapid tactical engineering solutions and products for US government customers with special requirements since 1999 and is best known for rapid prototyping and production of small electronic devices for surveillance, reconnaissance, and communication in challenging environments.
Prior to joining DFT, Mr. Desch was Vice President of Engineering and IT at A-Life Medical, where he developed software for outpatient and clinical decision-making markets by integrating natural language processing (NLP) technology. Mr. Desch was also a key player in the creation of a joint venture between A-life Medical and the University of Pittsburg Medical Center (UPMC), leading the successful development and deployment of a software-as-a-service product for multiple UPMC hospitals.
Mr. Desch led the development of Sony’s first High Definition Television (HDTV) for Sony Electronics, where he also identified and developed other emerging technologies such as Sony’s wireless video home networking products. In addition, cities throughout the world currently use another technology that Mr. Desch developed at Cubic Transportation Systems--the next generation automatic fare collection systems used for buses, trains, and trolleys. Mr. Desch’s innovative work has earned him six registered patents and he has numerous others pending.
"DFT specializes in providing rapid tactical solutions and products for customers with special requirements, so Dave’s ample experience in transitioning engineering solutions into deployed products that deliver high levels of quality and sophisticated functionality made him the ideal candidate for this position," said Justin MacLaurin, president and CEO, Digital Force Technologies.
Digtal Force Technologies is part of BBN’s Delta Division, which transitions the company’s advanced technologies into products and services and is frequently recognized for its Boomerang Shooter Detection system, which is currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan where it immediately alerts troops to incoming fire and pinpoints the shooter’s location.
