CAMBRIDGE, Mass., October 15, 2007 — BBN Technologies, an advanced technology solutions firm, announced today that Peiter "Mudge Zatko has been named a 2007 Boston Business Journal "40 under 40" honoree, an annual distinction given to the best and brightest young leaders in Greater Boston.
Individuals are selected by an editorial committee after the Boston Business Journal (BBJ) solicits nominations from the business community. Each year, the selection process gets tougher as the quality and volume of the nominations climb.
George Donnelly, editor of the Boston Business Journal, said, "Our 40 Under 40 program is our way of recognizing rising stars across a broad spectrum of Boston area businesses. With so much talent to choose from in the region, it's a very competitive award."
This year's honorees come from a broad spectrum in the Boston business community and represent the talent and commitment that helps drive the regional economy.
Mudge was selected for his professional and civic contributions in the area of digital security. Mr. Zatko holds the distinction as one of the world's most well-respected, oft-sought digital security advisors. He has consulted for everyone from the White House, to the Pentagon, to the FBI, to Fortune 500 companies.
In 1998, Mudge testified before a Senate committee that he, along with six of his peers, could bring down the Internet in 30 minutes.
In addition to this bold claim, Mudge's resume includes a long list of distinguished invitations and honors, including an invitation in 2000 to meet with President Clinton at a security summit alongside cabinet members and industry executives; lectures at the Army War College, Navy Post-Graduate College, and FBI headquarters; and the distinction of being profiled by CNN and Time Magazine in their 21st century Visions and Visionaries series.
"Mudge is one of the world's most respected information security experts,"e; said Tad Elmer, president and CEO of BBN Technologies. "His contributions to network security can be found everywhere from the White House to Fortune 500 companies, and it is fitting that he has been honored as one of the regions top stars under 40."
The BBJ's October 12th issue contained a special supplement with profiles of the winners. In addition, the BBJ held a reception on October 11th at the Copley Marriott Hotel in Boston to recognize this year's group of outstanding professionals and civic leaders.
