BBN Technologies Receives Prestigious Cogswell Security Award
Middletown, RI Research & Development Facility Selected
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., October 22, 2004 — BBN Technologies, a leading provider of advanced technology and research and development, has received the Department of Defense (DoD) James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award for 2004. The company was recognized for outstanding implementation and maintenance of rational, cost-effective security measures by its research and development facility in Middletown, RI. Established in 1966 and administered by the Defense Security Service (DSS), the Cogswell Award is named to honor the first chief of the Office of Industrial Security, Col. James S. Cogswell. Col. Cogswell established many of the basic principles guiding the National Industrial Security Program, of which DSS is a part.
The award review process is a rigorous one; companies are judged in a number of areas including leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, information and analysis, security awareness and security program results. Out of approximately 11,000 DoD cleared facilities considered annually, fewer than one in a thousand receive this prestigious award. BBN Technologies has won a total of four Cogswell Awards in its history, including its Arlington, VA office in 1997 and 2000. The BBN facility managers honored with the Cogswell Award this year are:
- Keith Carlson, vice president and director of operations
- Renai Chapman, facility security officer
- Rose Graham, assistant security officer
- Jean Singleton, corporate security officer
"Being chosen as one of only eight out of 11,000 eligible facilities to receive this award is a reflection of BBN Technologies' fifty-year heritage of solving complex, mission critical security problems. We are proud of the team effort of our Middletown facility's management and security staff," said Tad Elmer, CEO and president of BBN Technologies. "Our security work is based on preparing today for the uncertain needs of tomorrow, by ensuring that our technical expertise and resources are always a step or two ahead of current markets and solutions."
By winning the award, BBN Technologies, RI joins a prestigious list of previous selectees such as such as Raytheon; KEI Pearson, Inc.; CSC; Northrop Grumman, TASC; Control & Structure and Digital Receiver.
